JIFFY MUFFIN MIX PACKAGING

2024

Jiffy Mix is based out of Chelsea, MI and is known and loved for their easy recipes and delicious muffins.

With this packaging design, I aimed to bring out the qualities of the product by utilizing pattern and color to represent the variety and flavor of each mix.

For the final product, I utilized bright and saturated color to allow for this product to stand out on product shelves in comparison to competitors. One of the most notable features about this brand, is that the package features a recipe to be used for the final product. I enlarged and simplified this recipe to make it easier to find and easier to read.  I also wanted to make the logo one of the first pieces of the package to catch your eye, and did this by enlarging it and having it stand out from the color of the bag. The patterns all feel part of a system, and the iconography is easy to read and doesn’t overpower the final design.

Initial Concepts and Designs:

The initial design differed greatly from the final product. The color is much more muted and desaturated, the patterns are complex, and I featured a linear blend behind the logo that didn’t feel like it served any purpose to the design.

The second version of this product came with many changes. I went with the bag shape to further diversify the product on store shelves, and allow for the product to sit directly inside its container and eleminate a plastic liner that would be found in a box. I included a white stripe to run vertically around the packaging, which allowed for the logo to take on the color of the bag. Ultimately, the color of the blueberry still wasn’t feeling spot on, and the linear outlines on the pattern felt distracting. Alongside this, the patterns all featured different grid arrangements.
