HOPLOT BREWING CO. SYMBOL SYSTEM

I chose to create a new symbol system for HopLot Brewing Company in Stuttons Bay, MI. The original system for this company included a small variety of linear based iconography that had very little relations to one another. My goal was to refine and redesign current symbols and expand on the quantity for greater usage.

Design Process:

I began by researching the current symbols utilized on the website. They all were linear based symbols, however other fundemental elements felt disconnected from one another and they didn’t feel part of the system. The symbols were limted, and I discovered more opportunity for iconographic usage throughout the website.

I began by sketching through the first four existing symbols, food, drink, shop, and igloo reservation/events. I wanted to maintain the linear approach, as this element was working well between the four symbols, but played with aspects such as line weight, scale, continuity, and detail.

I focued on a very geometric style when creating the final forms. I did this to provide the maximum amount of unity between each symbol. I also played around with continuity of line. I made this desicion to provide a level of detail and depth within each icon, and stylistically once again unify the forms.
