Client: WMU Digital Marketing and Advertising
The Digital Marketing and Advertising departments at Western Michigan University asked me to design a 600 x 600 composition with a neon, high energy theme to advertise their upcoming Digital Marketing and Advertising Career Fair.
Design Process:
I created a series of three mood boards to gauge a better idea of what my client was looking for. Above is the mood board that was selected. While they mentioned neon and high energy in the brief, there was many directions I could have taken my designs. This served as inspiration through the process. The client also asked that the teal color utilized in their branding was present throughout the composition. I used this as a starting point.
These initial design options were presented to the client. Each featured a different composition concept and typography treatment to maximize options, and allow them to see which elements resonated most with them. We decided on adding an additional color to compliment the teal, and talked about different imagery we could utilize within the designs. This critique inspired my next presentation of compositions.
I then presented this next set of concepts to my client. The addition of the pink color complimented the teal quite nicely and felt very in-range when it came to the neon look. Another element added was the neon door. The door was selected to represent the “opening of doors” for students attenting the event.
My client responded quite well to the first option presented, and with a few tweaks this ultimately became the final design.
